Greybull's five research projects went to the State Science Competition and came home with numerous special awards, category awards and the team title in the Senior division.
Chaise Benasky competed in the Microbiology category with her project "Determining the Ability of Specific Conifer Endophytic Fungi to Control Bacterial Populations". Her research placed 1st in the category and also received special awards from the US Air Force, the 2nd place award from IMBRE, the 2nd place award from the US Naval Science Dept. and a US Metric Association award.
Caroline Boyer competed in the category of Earth & Environmental Sciences. Her project - "Providing an Effective Mechanism for the Control of PFAS Contamination in Water Supplies Through the Application of Engineered Bentonite/Zeolite Matrices" - received 2nd place in her category. She also received the Rocky Mountain Water Association award and qualified to attend the US National Water Environment Federation competition in Golden in June. In addition to the SJWP award, Caroline received 3rd place from the NCAR Geosciences division, the Rocky Mountain Association of Geoscientists Foundation Special Award and 2nd place from the NASA SpaceGrant Consortium.
With the project "Determining Potential Variation in Student Anxiety Triggers Based on Regional and Population Differences", Cadence Fostervold received 1st place in Behavioral Sciences.
In the Animal Sciences category, Tyler Searfoss placed 1st with his work, "A Continuing Analysis of Nematode Viability: Mitigation of Agrochemical Impacts Across Different Soil Profiles Utilizing Organic Carbon and Nitrate". Tyler also received a special award from the Powder River Resource Council and a 3rd place award from the UW Math & Statistics Dept.
Shay Williams competed in the Biomedical category with her research entitled "Commercial vs Natural Products: Determining the Efficiency of Moisturizing Compounds through the Application of a Gel Agarose Model". Shay was 2nd in the category and also receive a 2nd place award from the UW Math & Statistics Dept.
Greybull was the top school at the competition with 40 points, narrowly beating Laramie which scored 36 points. Cheyenne Central was a distant 3rd with 19 points.
